Bhajan and Geet
The songs which have the praise of God are called bhajans. Literary poems that are tied in sur and rhythm are called songs. The specialty of these two is that there is no bonding of raga. Special attention is given to the expressions of words in both.
If a bhajan or song is in a raga, it is a good thing, if it is not there is no harm in it. There is no harm if there is violation of the rules of the raga in the Bhajans.
Taal
Like a thought, if it requires alap-taan, then a small part is shown. It is also sung mostly in Dadra, Kaharwa, Teental and sometimes in Roopak and Jhapatal.
Meend, Kan, Khatka etc. are important in this. The bhajan is generally performed in the melodious ragas of Peelu, Bhairavi, Khamaz, Kafi, Desh etc. Bhajans and songs are not required to be in raga.
भजन और गीत
जिन गीतों में भगवान का गुणगान होता हो वे भजन कहलाते हैं। जो साहित्यिक कविताएं स्वर और लय में बाँध दी जाती हो उसे गीत कहते हैं। इन दोनो की विशेषता ये है की इनमें राग का बंधन नही होता है। दोनों में शब्दों के भाव पर विशेष ध्यान दिया जाता है।
अगर कोई भजन या गीत राग में है तो अच्छी बात है अगर नही है तो इसमें कोई हानि नही है। भजन गाने में कही पर अगर राग के नियमो का उलंघन भी होता हो तो कोई हानि नही है।
ताल
ख्याल के समान इसमें अगर अलाप–तान की आवश्यकता होती है तो थोड़ा अंश दिखा दिया जाता है। ये अधिकतर दादरा, कहरवा, तीनताल और कभी कभी रूपक और झपताल में भी गाया जाता है।
इसमें मीड, कण, खटका आदि का महत्व रहता है। भजन साधारणतया पीलु, भैरवी, खमाज, काफ़ी, देश आदि मधुर रागों में गया जाता है। भजन और गीतों का राग में होना आवश्यक नहीं है।
