Principles of Thaat

1) Jati of Thaat should always be sampurna. That is, there should be seven swaras in the thaat. The swar can be anything Komal, Shuddh or Tivra.

2) The seven swaras in the Thaat must be in order. Like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni

3) Ragas originated from Thaat. But the concept of Raga Ragini dates back long before that.

4) That is not sung.

5) Thaats in Northern Music The number is ten – 1) Purvi, 2) Asavari, 3) Bilawal, 4) Khamaj, 5) Kalyan, 6) Kafi 7) Bhairav, 8) Bhairavi, 9) Todi, and 10) Marva.

6) The Aroh-Avaroh, Swar and Jati etc. of each Thaat are the same. Therefore, it is only by looking at the ascending or descending that one knows about Thaat.

थाट के सिद्धांत

1) थाट हमेशा संपूर्ण जाति का होना चाहिए। अर्थात थाट में सातों स्वर होने चाहिए। स्वर कोमल, शुद्ध या तिव्र कुछ भी हो सकता है।

2) थाट में सातों स्वर अर्थात सा के
बाद रे , रे के बाद ग ऐसे सातों
स्वर क्रम से होना चाहिए।

3) रागों की उत्पत्ति थाट से हुई है। लेकिन राग रागिनी की संकल्पना थाट से बहुत पहले हुई है।

4) थाट गाया नहीं जाता है।

5) उत्तरी संगीत प्रथा में थाटों की
संख्या है दस — 1) पूर्वी, 2)
असावरी, 3) बिलावल, 4)
खमाज, 5) कल्याण, 6) काफी 7)
भैरव, 8) भैरवी, 9) तोड़ी, और 10) मरवा ।

6) प्रत्येक थाट के आरोह-अवरोह, स्वर और जाति आदि सभी समान होते हैं। इसलिए सिर्फ आरोह या अवरोह को देखने से ही थाट के बारे में पता चल जाता है।
